Join an Organization
NEC has several active organizations registered with Student Activities. Organizations have specific requirements to uphold during the academic year. You will experience many of our orgs hosting signature events around campus and advocating for student concerns and needs. Check out our list to find a group you connect with!
Asian Student Association (ASA)
ASA is a relatively new organization run by and for Asian Pacific Islander students at NEC. Founded in 2018, each year, we host a series of cultural events and meetings to help our API students feel more at home. Our public events celebrate the heritages and cuisines (quite popular) of our home countries, while closed meetings offer a smaller space for API students to share and discuss their concerns, and find new ways of connecting the diverse student body at NEC!
While our shared passion for musical excellence provides common ground, at NEC, both international students and ethnic APIs born/raised in America face issues unique to the API experience in North America. In response, ASA events aim to strengthen our students' personal cultural identities, offer a chance for all of NEC to learn more about API cultures, and thus improve intercultural as well as international-domestic unity within the student body.

Black Student Union (BSU)
The purpose of the New England Conservatory Black Student Union is to provide an open forum for Black and non-Black students who want to be more involved in the discussion about the Black experience. We desire to create a safe space in which we are able to unify and educate not only ourselves, but the greater NEC community, about our rich, unique history and culture. Our focus is to find new ways to use our gifts to spread love, combat hate, and implement positive change in our community. We share our experiences, express our ideas, and cultivate our dreams through various forms of discussion, performances and outreach.

Chess Club
Chess Club is a new club on NEC’s campus this year and was started to provide more opportunities on NEC’s campus to connect with the entire student body and allow students to branch out and meet new people on campus! This year the organization wants to help students build connections with students on campus and across Boston, help students learn more about the game of chess and plans to bring in a Grand Master to give a lecture!

New England Conservatory Environmental Club (NECO)
The New England Conservatory Environmental Club (NECO) is an inclusive group that aims to bring the community together to learn about, discuss, and act upon environmental issues in the community and beyond. Anticipated events this year include planning an environmental benefit concert in the Spring of 2020, and helping get our community more involved in careful recycling and other environmental initiatives!

The Nobodies Poetry Club
Poetry club that meets every week, Friday at 5PM to drink tea/coffee and create an amalgamation of music and poetry to be performed at open mic nights. No preparation required.
At the end of every month, open mic night will be held: spoken word and music performances taken from these poetry workshops.

Outing Club
The purpose of the NEC Outing Club is to provide students with opportunities to get active and out of doors. Whether through hiking, apple-picking, canoeing, rock climbing, skiing, outdoor games and more, we aim to provide a positive and judgement free environment for students who enjoy nature and want to get moving, or for those who may have little experience but would like to try something new.
Our group leaders have extensive experience in backpacking and outdoor recreation, and one is Wilderness First Aid certified. Trips are usually on weekends, with transportation to and from NEC provided. Join us for fun and sun!

Queer Union for the Equality of Students and Teachers (QUEST)
QUEST (Queer Union for the Equality of Students and Teachers) is a group devoted to fostering an inclusive community which bolsters the visibility of LGBTQ+ individuals at the New England Conservatory while providing resources to the community and their allies. Through this group, we hope to create a support network to share stories, experiences, and music that speaks to the larger purview containing our own unique queer experiences. - As NEC is very male-dominated, especially in the Jazz/CI departments, SAGE is always pushing constructively for a more equitable institution through engaging in these same discussions with admin and faculty.
- SAGE plans to host monthly concerts highlighting non-male students! We welcome any and all who are willing to listen, engage, learn, and be supportive and accepting of all identities.
Student National Association of Teachers of Singing (SNATS)
The New England Conservatory Student National Association of Teachers of Singing (NEC SNATS) Chapter is an organization of students whose aim is to meet, hold events and discussions, participate, practice, and learn more about voice teaching as a profession. Our membership is open to all NEC students, regardless of degree or major-- we strive to include not only classical voice, but also members of the jazz, choral, and contemporary improvisation departments. In addition, we collaborate with Boston-based music programs and professionals to create a network of current and future NATS Boston members by extending the range of vocal knowledge with unique resources and opportunities available to the wider community. We hope to form a longstanding partnership with NATS Boston as the official SNATS chapter for NATS Boston.

- Your status (undergraduate, graduate, etc.)
- Name of organization
- Purpose or Vision of the club
- Please describe the focus of the club. This can include:
- Host events for the community
- Create a space for students to connect
