Ways to Give

There are a variety of ways to make a gift to NEC depending on what works best for you.

New England Conservatory is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. All donations are tax-deductible to the full extent of the law. Our non-profit tax ID is 23-7225104.

Checks

Please make your check payable to "New England Conservatory" and mail your contribution to:

Office of Advancement & Engagement
New England Conservatory
290 Huntington Avenue
Boston, MA 02115

Whether you direct your gift to NEC's Annual Fund or to another designation, be sure to indicate in writing how you'd like your gift to be allocated, either in the memo field on your check or in an accompanying letter.

Credit Card

NEC accepts Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and Discover. Credit card gifts can be made here or by mailing to the address listed above.

Stock

A charitable gift of appreciated stocks or bonds is an easy way to support New England Conservatory while enjoying beneficial tax treatment.

By electronically transferring appreciated stocks or bonds directly to NEC's account, you avoid capital-gains tax. NEC can then sell the security without delay and put your donation to work immediately.

The process is simple and quick:

  1. Call your broker with instructions to transfer your security to NEC's account at UBS Financial Services on [name a specific date]. Your broker will need the following information about NEC's account to make the transfer:

    Account Number:

    DTC Number:

  2. Contact Patricia Kopko, at 617-585-1225 to alert NEC of the transfer, including the name of security, number of shares, and date of transfer. NEC will confirm the transaction with our broker and then send you a letter documenting the transfer and mean value of the security on the day it is received in our account. Your broker should send you a confirmation as well, but the letter from NEC will suffice for your tax records.

Please note: NEC cannot accept stock certificates or bonds directly. For those whose securities are not held in street name, please deliver the securities to your broker and then proceed as above.

Other Ways to Give

Planned Gifts

By making a planned gift, you can strengthen New England Conservatory and gain financial and tax benefits for you and your family. For more information, please contact Tricia Cheverie by email or by phone at 617-585-1719 or contact Patricia Kopko by email or by phone at 617-585-1225

Real Estate

Real estate can be contributed as an outright gift or to finance a planned gift.  Available options include a retained life estate, which allows the donor to continue to use the property for a certain number of years or for the donor’s lifetime. Other arrangements offer special tax advantages and lifetime income.

Gifts of real estate include undeveloped land, a residence, a vacation home, a farm, or commercial property. NEC requires the donor to bear certain costs when making a real estate gift, such as an appraisal to determine the fair market value. Also, NEC deducts transaction costs from the proceeds of the sale of the property, including the closing costs, title insurance, a survey (if needed), and any taxes due before the gift is completed.

For more information, please contact Tricia Cheverie by email or by phone at 617-585-1719 or contact Patricia Kopko by email or by phone at 617-585-1225.

Matching Gifts

Many companies support the philanthropic interests of their employees by matching employee contributions to nonprofit organizations like NEC. If your employer offers a matching gift program, you may be able to double or even triple your gift!

For more information on matching gift contributions, please email the Office of Advancement and Engagement or call 617-585-1225.

Recurring Gifts

Recurring giving is an easy, automatic way to support the Institute that works for your budget and schedule. It is convenient, customizable, and environmentally friendly, and helps ensure a steady source of funding for NEC.

You can set up your recurring gift by credit card now, or the next time you make an online donation, by choosing “recurring gift” from the “2. Select Gift Type” section of our gift form.

Gifts In Kind

Gifts of personal property, such as musical instruments, recordings, and scores may be given to the Conservatory. Through the support of in-kind gifts, you can help NEC meet the College's ongoing need to add to its inventory—and you qualify for a tax deduction at the same time. Instrument donations provide valuable support for our music education programs. NEC accepts in-kind donations on a case-by-case basis.

For more information, please contact Patricia Kopko, Assistant Director of Advancement Operations by email or at 617-585-1225.

Memorial & Honorarium Gifts

Many friends of New England Conservatory elect to make gifts to NEC that commemorate a loved one's life, birthday, anniversary, or other special occasion. We will gladly notify those you wish to know of any gifts made in their honor. Contributions in any amount may be directed to The NEC Fund, or to the area of your choice. Please note the name of the person you wish to commemorate when you make your gift.
